Hi y’all, and welcome back to another behind-the-scenes blog post for our (~semi) new vlog series, United by Hope. On a special note, happy Autism Awareness Month. This episode felt especially meaningful, and I’m so excited to share it with you!!
For Episode Four, I had the honor of sitting down with Dr. Rhonda Brown-Crowder, founder and CEO of Caleb’s Community, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families

navigating life with children who have special needs. Her story begins with her son, Caleb.
After Caleb was diagnosed with autism just before his fourth birthday, Dr. Brown-Crowder was faced with the same overwhelming questions so many families experience. What does this mean? Where do you start? How do you find the right support? Through years of learning, connecting with others, and advocating for her son, she built something meaningful out of that uncertainty. Caleb’s Community was created to help other families feel less alone and more equipped at the beginning of their journey.
Her mission centers on four pillars: educating, advocating, innovating, and celebrating within the special needs community, while encouraging others to approach this work with openness and compassion. As said in the video, she’s an icon. Her philosophy, which she actively integrates into Caleb’s Community, is so incredibly inspiring!
Now, the interview!
From the moment I met Dr. Brown-Crowder, I knew this conversation would be special. We filmed in a church since the nonprofit is still growing and does not yet have a physical location, but she completely filled the space with her presence. She was dressed head-to-toe in bright yellow, full of color and personality, which matched her energy perfectly.
She was warm, cheerful, and incredibly well-spoken. Every thought she shared carried intention and passion. You could tell how much this work means to her, not just professionally, but personally.
One of the most impactful parts of our conversation was hearing about the early days after Caleb’s diagnosis. She spoke honestly about the fear, confusion, and emotional weight of navigating something completely new. That experience is exactly what led her to create resources for others.
Which leads us perfectly into…her book! Dr.Brown-Crowder is the author of All Roads

Lead to Love: Caleb’s Autism Journey: The Early Years, a novel that speaks directly to parents who are just beginning the journey of raising children with disabilities. It asks questions so many families face and offers guidance drawn from her own lived
experience. She describes navigating the diagnosis, finding the right services, leaning on faith, and learning how to advocate for her son. This is the first of three books, with more to come as Caleb grows. (So yes, we are all officially invested now.)
Sidenote: She gave me a copy. Best interview ever.
She also shared her song, “See Me,” which she says came to her in a dream through the Holy Spirit. It reflects Caleb’s life and encourages people to truly see and understand children with special needs. The song is beautiful, and her voice is incredible. I will have both the book and the song linked below if you’d like to check them out!
Now, onto a more personal note, this episode meant a lot to me. (bet y’all weren’t expecting me to trauma-dump, huh?) I grew up with dyslexia and auditory processing challenges, deeply struggling to keep up with the academic pace of my peers, not even learning to read adequately until age nine. Though not exactly the same, I understand how difficult it can be to navigate learning differences. Seeing a space like Caleb’s Community being created, where families can find guidance and support from someone who has lived it, is something I would have deeply appreciated growing up.
Although there was no traditional facility tour this month, I still encourage you to check out the video version of this visit. It is short and sweet, and it captures the heart of the conversation.

As we wrapped up filming, I felt incredibly thankful for the opportunity to hear Dr. Brown-Crowder's story and witness the beginning of something that will continue to grow. Caleb’s Community is still in its early stages and actively seeking support and collaboration, so if you are looking for a way to get involved, this is a great place to start.
Thank you, Dr. Brown-Crowder, for sharing your story and your heart. It was truly an honor.
Thank you all for following along with United by Hope. I cannot wait for next month’s adventure!!
Stay tuned!
